The Easter weekend will see some of the best racing of the year when the 2011 All Aged Stakes runs on Randwick’s Sydney Cup Day this Saturday April 23, 2011, and the final field and barrier draw for the race has now been released.
13 talented horses have nominated to be part of one of the best races on Sydney’s horse racing calendar, including John McNair’s Hay List.
Odds and betting information for all 13 horses in the 2011 All Aged Stakes will be made available at Luxbet later in the week.
Hay List put in a gallant run to finish second behind Black Caviar in the TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick last start, beating the remainder of the field by an extraordinary five lengths.
With the absence of his rival Black Caviar, Hay List will have the opportunity to assert his dominance and claim his 14th win from just 19 runs in the 2011 All Aged Stakes.
Hay List has drawn barrier eight for the $400,000 All Aged Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Glyn Schofield.
Hay List’s trainer, John McNair, said that Hay List has put on a further 4 kilograms since his second place run in the TJ Smith Stakes and he will be an even better horse for it.
‘I don’t know where it is,” McNair said.
”I’m usually a good judge of a horse’s weight by looking at them but when I weighed him and he was 4kg more than before the TJ, I thought the scales were wrong.
”He is always a good doer [and has been worked] since the TJ, and he feels terrific. To look at him you would think he has tightened up a bit from that run.”
Jockey Glyn Schofield agrees that Hay List is on the improve.
“(Glyn Schofield) said there was at least a couple of lengths’ improvement there,” McNair said.
”It’s amazing what can happen when he can be worked. I’m the only person that knows the problems he had before and after the Newmarket, and he is a different horse now.”
In a time where Black Caviar dominates the headlines, it is hard for a super talent such as Hay List to get the credit he so rightly deserves.
”He’s a very, very good horse when he is right,” McNair said.
”Black Caviar is the best sprinter we have seen for a long time.”
Saturday’s run in the 2011 All Aged Stakes will most likely be his last before a well-earned spell that will last until he is ready to begin his spring campaign later in the year.
Despite a lengthy spell being planned, the Statue Of Liberty five-year-old has been invited to Singapore’s Krisflyer Sprint next month.
”He has been invited (to the Krisflyer) but the owners are reluctant to go at the moment,” McNair said.
”There are other races in Australia for him, and he really needs to have a good spell to be ready for the spring.
Also amongst the 2011 All Aged Stakes final field is Gerald Ryan’s Melito, who has drawn barrier ten for the race.
Melito finished second to More Joyous in her last run in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on April 2, 2011.
He talented four-year-old will be hoping to nab her second Group win of this preparation after winning the Group 2 Apollo Stakes first-up on February 19, 2011.
Also included in the 2011 All Aged Stakes final field is Chris Waller’s Rangirangdoo, John Wallace’s Shoot Out and Grahame Begg’s All Silent.
