Atlantic Jewel is the 2012 All Aged Stakes Winner

April 28th, 2012

Odds-on favourite Atlantic Jewel has proved her class today by taking out the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick on Sydney Cup Day.

The Mark Kavanagh trained filly remains unbeaten after seven career starts.

It was a true show of class for Atlantic Jewel, now a dual Group 1 winner, as it was her first test under weight-for-age conditions against an open field with her previous wins all agains fillies or mares.

While Atlantic Jewel was a decisive winner, she was made to work hard for the win by second place-getter Rain Affair. Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican was third.

“I think she’s done pretty good effort they’ve run pretty good time she’s on the improve he’s a tough old fella Rain Affair,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said.

“They don’t have to win by much do they?

“It’s her first test at weight-for-age, her first test against the boys and she’s had to work.

“She’s done that well. She knows how to win.”

While no immediate plans have been made for Atlantic Jewel, the clear target now will be the Cox Plate.
