2014 All Aged Stakes Betting Preview and Tips

April 24th, 2014

A particularly talented field of eleven has been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters several good opportunities to place a winning wager.

Unlucky to finish second in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) last time out, Rebel Dane is currently outright favourite and clear mover in betting markets for success in the 2014 All Aged Stakes at $3.40 odds, ahead of Steps In Time ($6), Weary ($6.50) and Tiger Tees ($9).

Will Rebel Dane score a Group 1 victory in only his second race this time in, or will one of this season’s Group 1 champions find the All Aged Stakes post in the clear?

1st

Rebel Dane ($3.40)

Securing an impressive total of six wins and two places from only 13 competitive starts so far, Rebel Dane contested a particularly strong 2013 spring preparation, winning the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up before working towards a maiden Group 1 victory in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 29th most notably. Finishing only in the red of the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in the TJ Smith last time out, trainer Gary Portelli is confident his stable’s star will overcome the slightly awkward barrier 10, particularly with regular jockey Glen Boss confirmed to retain the ride this weekend.

2nd

Steps In Time ($6)

Arguably one of the most consistent performers of any current Australian race horse, Steps In Time has claimed nine wins and four places from 26 race starts to date and represents great value to punters at current $6 odds, or $2.30 for a place. Returning to the track in typically strong form this season, the Danehill Dancer mare was unlucky not to claim a third-consecutive Group 2 Breeders’ Classic (1200m) title when pipped on the line by Catkins, but responded in the best way possible when striding clear to win the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and register a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing. While unable to handle the heavy going of the TJ Smith last time out, Steps In Time will leave from the central barrier 6 in the All Aged Stakes and will be partnered by veteran jockey Jim Cassidy.

3rd

Atlante ($14)

While yet to hit peak condition in three race starts this time in, former Group 1 winner Atlante arguably offers punters the best value for money in betting markets for the 2014 All Aged Stakes at generous $14 odds. Contesting a strong record of three wins and two places from only eight race starts to date, the Fastnet Rock colt steadily built to the task at hand in her maiden preparation in New Zealand last spring, winning the Listed Canterbury Stakes (1600m) before strolling home to claim the major Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) by a length. Confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Glyn Schofield, Atlante will leave from barrier 7 in the All Aged Stakes.
