2015 All Aged Stakes the Final Target for Dissident

March 24th, 2015

Disappointing when failing to match the late pace of Suavito and Smokin’ Joey when third in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) last time out, trainer Managing Director of Newgate Stud Henry Field has revealed Dissident will no longer contest the Doncaster Mile, and will instead target the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) as a his final racing point of call.

One of the standout performers over the 2014 Australian racing calendar, Dissident returned this season for third in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m); returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) on February 14th a fortnight prior to his Futurity Stakes flop.

Never comfortable during the running of the Futurity Stakes, speculation surrounded Dissident’s racing future and whether he would contest another event before retiring a stud career but Field revealed trainer Peter Moody is keen to saddle the son of Sebring one last time in the 2015 All Aged Stakes.

“He is very keen to run the horse in the All Aged,” Field told Sky Racing HQ.

“Obviously he had a setback in the Futurity after being so dominant when winning the Orr and he had a week to 10 days out.

“Hopefully we can have him spot-on for the All Aged and it would be great to finish his racing career as a five-time Group 1 winner.

“It would be great to finish it off by winning the All Aged Stakes and it would be lovely for such a good racehorse to finish his racing career in the style that he deserves.”

Stamping his claims as a serious racehorse upon resuming in 2014, Dissident placed second in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up; returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) before breaking through for a maiden Group 1 victory in the Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 15th.

Returning in spring in career-best form, Dissident won each of the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) before placing a close second in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 28th.
