Darren Weir has been thrilled with the condition of Black Heart Bart this season and is confident his latest start recruit will be perfectly suited to the conditions of Saturday’s 2016 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Black Heart Bart began his racing career under the guidance of Perth trainer Vaughn Sigley, but has undoubtedly stepped up in class since arriving in Weir’s care this time; running an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) first-up before taking out the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) most recently on March 26th.
Weir told AAP the Blackfriars gelding has continued to improve since his last-start win and is confident he will line up for the 2016 All Aged in peak condition.
“He’s a tough horse,” Weir said.
“He’s just a great workman-type horse with a massive will to win. And a bloody good galloper as well.”
Black Heart Bart has been a strong and consistent performer through his entire racing career so far; posting eleven wins and a further nine minors through twenty-eight competitive starts.
Finding peak racing form the first time through the early stages of 2014, Black Heart Bart ran second in the Listed Magic Millions Yearling Challenge (1500m) before placing third in each of the Listed Lex Piper Stakes (1600m) and Listed JC Roberts Stakes (1800m).
Resuming at the end of 2014 for second in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m), Black Heart Bart finished fourth in the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) before posting a maiden black type win in the Listed WA Stakes (1400m).
Returning in 2015 a different horse, Black Heart Bart posted consecutive wins in the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m), Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m), Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m) and Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) before finishing fourth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.
The 2016 All Aged Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
