Waller Pleased with 2016 All Aged Stakes Entrants

April 11th, 2016

Trainer Chris Waller has been understandably thrilled with the form displayed by both Kermadec and Press Statement this time and has revealed the talented stable mates will take their positions in Saturday’s 2016 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Kermadec resumed for third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 5th; progressing to a close second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before suffering a minor ailment during the running of the Doncaster Mile a fortnight ago.

Press Statement resumed for a commanding win in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) before running second in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and third in the George Ryder Stakes most recently.

Underlining the race as an indicator as to whether or not one or both horses will be sent to Royal Ascot to contest the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m), Waller told AAP he is confident both horses are ready to perform to a high standard in the All Aged Stakes.

“I think Kermadec is more of a sprinter and we will bring him back in distance,” Waller said.

“Press Statement is a good 1400 metre horse and that’s what you need for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

“It is a tough 1200 metres. It’s an amazing experience and if you have a colt it can be important for their breeding careers.”

Waller is particularly confident in the chances of Press Statement, who will be treated well as a three-year-old and will contest the race fresh.

“He will be fresh for the All Aged and he races well that way,” Waller said.

A two-time Group 1 winner, Kermadec capped a standout 2015 autumn preparation with success in the Doncaster Mile; continuing to impress through a busy spring campaign highlighted by a win in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m).

Press Statement charged home to win the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) in only his third race start and returned in spring for a commanding win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) most notably.

2016 All Aged Stakes nominations are due to be taken by midday today (Monday, 11 April 2016).
