Only eight runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of racing.
Chris Waller has been confirmed to launch a two-pronged attack on the 2016 All Aged Stakes after confirming both Kermadec and Press Statement in the race’s final field.
A multiple Group 1 winner having taken out each of the Doncaster Mile (1600m) and George Main Stakes (1600m) during a standout 2015 campaign, Kermadec returned this time for a commendable third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
Progressing to a close second behind champion mare and stable mate Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), the Teofilo entire failed to fire in the Doncaster Mile a fortnight ago but has reportedly come on very well through the last week.
Press Statement has been a standout for Waller through his entire racing career so far and will be tough to beat with leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle, and with only 56.5kgs in tow.
Winning the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) with ease in only his third race start, Press Statement continued to impress through spring and capped his campaign with another dominant performance for success in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).
Resuming this time for success in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), the Hinchinbrook colt placed a close second in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) before finishing third in the George Ryder Stakes last start.
Malaguerra has undoubtedly returned to racing in career-best form this time and could very well receive the run of the race in the 2016 All Aged Stakes from the ideal barrier 2, particularly with in-form jockey Blake Shinn aboard.
Malaguerra has been a consistent performer through his entire racing career to date and has amassed an impressive record of nine wins and two minors through only sixteen starts.
Ending a strong spring campaign with a comfortable win in the Emirates Airline Plate (1400m), the Magnus gelding resumed this time for success in the Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) before repeating the dose in the Group 3 Kingdom Stakes (1200m) on March 26th.
Italian import Goldstream will have his first Australian start in the 2016 All Aged Stakes and will leave from barrier 5 with Brenton Avdulla aboard.
Winner of the Group 2 Italian Derby (2213m) in May last year, Goldstream contested two races in Germany for Andreas Wohler before arriving in Kris Lees’ care late in the year.
Having trialled well in the lead-up to Saturday, Goldstream is undoubtedly the unknown quantity in the 2016 All Aged Stakes field.
