Waterhouse had prepared previous champions All Our Mob (1997), Arlington Road (2003), Shamekha (2005) and Bentley Biscuit (2007), her Encosta De Lago filly English making it five victories in the $600,000 Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Joining Atlantic Jewel (2012) as the most recent filly to beat the older horses in the All Aged, English also handed her young hoop Sam Clipperton with his second Group 1 winning ride.

His first was for boss Ron Quinton on Day 1 of the Sydney Carnival, and he made it another in the All Aged Stakes having read the race very well giving English the best winning chance in a slowly run edition of the feature.

English ($6) came home late on the back of Chris Waller’s Caulfield Guineas winner from the spring Press Statement, the favourite dropping right out in a disappointing run, and charged to the line with a neck to spare over the Darren Weir-trained Perth expat Black Heart Bart ($6).

Finishing off the All Aged Stakes trifecta in third only three-quarters of a length off the winner was Waller’s other runner Kermadec ($5) who was outsprinted late but held on to finish in the money.

Waterhouse confirmed plans to continue onto the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival with English, the filly now a winner of four of her eight career starts for over $1.7 million in prize money.

She will target the WFA $750,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 28 before looking to hand Waterhouse with a second win in Queensland’s richest race – the $1.5 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.

“They will be beautiful races for her,” Waterhouse said of the Brisbane Group 1s.
