Jungle Edge Ready for 2017 All Aged Stakes

April 11th, 2017

Trainer Mick Bell is confident that Jungle Edge will lay a typically good account for himself when he takes his position in Saturday’s 2017 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Jungle Edge has delivered Bell a number of excellent results since transferring to the Cranbourne trainer’s care in early 2016, but has undoubtedly returned to racing in career-best form this time in.

Running a credible fifth behind English in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up on March 4th, the Dubawi was gallant on pace before finishing an impressive third in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) a fortnight later, before storming home to win the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) three weeks ago.

Bell concedes that his stable star is set to face plenty of stiff opposition in the 2017 All Aged Stakes field and is hopeful that the rain in the greater Sydney metropolitan region continues this week, but is thrilled with Jungle Edge’s condition and believes he’s worthy of another tilt at Group 1 company.

“He’s had a little bit of time between runs and he’s won over 1400 before,” Bell told AAP.

“We’re going to have a crack. We’re in form.

“Obviously they’re hard to win but even running a place would be really nice. We’re enjoying the ride. The horse seems to be going better and better and better.

“The key to him is he needs a soft 5 or heavier. The heavier the better. His only bad races were on tracks I should have scratched on.”

Jungle Edge began his racing career under the guidance of Trevor Sutherland in early 2015, passing through the stables of Chris Strickland before arriving at Bell’s stables.

Running a close second behind Voodoo Lad in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) in August last year, Jungle Edge continued to impress through his next three starts, but failed to fire or beat a single runner home in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) on September 24th.

The 2017 All Aged Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
