2017 All Aged Stakes Field and Barrier Draw

April 12th, 2017

Ten runners have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured 2017 Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s standout racehorses.

Le Romain failed to produce much in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile last time out, but has been confirmed for an opportunity to atone in the 2017 All Aged Stakes field.

Winner of both the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) most notably in 2016, Le Romain resumed this time for a smart win in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) on February 13th.

Progressing to an impressive success over the likes of Chautauqua in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), the Hard Spun gelding ran second behind Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on March 18th before a lacklustre performance for fifteenth in the Doncaster Mile.

Le Romain has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier in the All Aged Stakes, but has the notable advantage of Hugh Bowman in the saddle on Saturday.

Redkirk Warrior is another horse that failed to fire in the Doncaster Mile, but has also been confirmed in the 2017 All Aged Stakes field.

Redkirk Warrior was a strong and consistent performer throughout the early stages of his career, but was all but retired from racing after suffering a string of hoof issues during his time in Hong Kong.

Debuting for Lindsay Park in late 2016 following more than a year away from competition, the Notnowcato gelding was considered the rank outsider of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) field first-up this time, but led from start to finish to post a dominant win.

Drawn ideally into the All Aged Stakes field in barrier 3, Redkirk Warrior will be partnered by Craig Williams for the first time.

Darren Weir did not accept a position in the All Aged Stakes field for Black Heart Bart, but the leading Victorian trainer will still be represented in the feature race by Voodoo Lad.

Voodoo Lad found strong and consistent form through the recent Spring Carnival; winning each of the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m), Listed Fruit Supply Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) and running second in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) most notably.

Resuming this time for a smart second in the Newmarket Handicap, the I Am Invincible gelding was last seen finishing fifth in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) and appears as though he will relish a return to 1400m on Saturday.
