A former Perth galloper, Black Heart Bart has undoubtedly found career-best form since transferring to the care of Weir during the 2016 Autumn Carnival and has returned to racing in typically excellent condition this time; adding another two Group 1 wins to an already glittering CV.

Citing his previous inability to find his best on a wet track, Weir told Racing Victoria that the Blackfriars gelding will not take his position in the 2017 All Aged Stakes field and will instead be set for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 20th.

“He definitely won’t run in the All Aged, the track is a bit of a concern and The Goodwood is really just a better race for him,” Weir said.

“He won’t have another run before heading to Adelaide, he’ll just have a jumpout in the lead-up.”

Black Heart Bart began his racing career under the guidance of Vaughn Sigley in late 2013 and has subsequently posted an impressive record of sixteen wins and fourteen minors, through a total of thirty-nine competitive appearances.

Given little chance of winning the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) in his first start for Weir in 2016, Black Heart Bart produced an impressive turn of foot to run a close second to The Quarterback, before returning to winning form in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m).

Placing second to English in the All Aged Stakes, Black Heart Bart stormed home to claim a maiden win at the highest level in The Goodwood, before ending his campaign second behind Under The Louvre in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in Brisbane.

Resuming in spring for a smart win in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m), the gelding out of Sister Theresa ran second behind stable mate Palentino in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) before returning to winning form in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).

Performing admirably for second behind Winx in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes (2000m), Black Heart Bart was returned to the paddock after running ninth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).

Having resumed this time for second in the Group 2 Australia Stakes (1200m), Black Heart Bart has posted consecutive wins in the Group 1 Ladbrokes CF Orr Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at his two most recent starts.

The 2017 All Aged Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, today (Wednesday April 12th).
